Hi Blog world,

Welcome, to the second week of my internship!

This week I have been working on my basic research skills by looking up some holidays and other special days for your project that we are working on.

I have been working on my transcription skills too by talking an audio files and putting it into word. I feel like I am improving on this skill.

I had my first meeting with my supervisor, and I got to meet my co-workers. At our first meeting we discussed what we are going to work on for the next week. We also have a team meeting about different projects.

I’m excited about learning new things and growing in my career.

My Internship with She’s Social

Hi Blog world,

Well, I can finally let the cat out of the bag! For the past few weeks I have been working behind the scenes about fun new and exciting new project. I’m their first intern.

I was so happy to get this opportunity to grow my skills. I have learned a lot since my first assignment. Speaking of my first assignment, It was working on my basic research skills by putting together as a spreadsheet to help collect data for possible advertisers.

My second assignment also reinforced my basic researching skills by allowing me to collect magazine links for my supervisor. It was cool to see the different types of press kits that they were out there for different magazines.

I’m excited about learning new things with this internship and growing as a journalist. I’m now actually achieving my dream.

Birthday Road Trip: New Orleans

Hi Blog world,

On the 20th of March, my friend and I hit the road for my 28th birthday. I have to admit I had no clue where we were going; and having to wait two weeks made me even more excited.

We drove and drove for what seemed like miles. I knew what state we were in from land marks from previous trips, but I kept guessing as to where we were going. My friend wouldn’t say as to where our final location would be.

Finally, she asked me to get the yellow bag from the back seat….We were headed to New Orleans. I couldn’t be more excited, and I called my best friend to let her know.

We drove until we needed to make a pit stop. We both got candy and soda. A real treat for me. We kept driving until we made it to New Orleans. We stopped for Chinese for lunch. It was good. After lunch, we drove what seemed like more ongoing hours to the city. Once there this city girl had a lot to take in.

There where people walking everywhere, Taxi bikes, trolleys, and horses with carriages. With all the hustle of people, it took an hour of driving around to find a place to park; yet, along the way, there where people, beads, New Orleans charm in houses, and even cool cop cars to look at.

We finally found a public place to part at a hotel. We then hit Bourbon St.

It was like one big party with people coming and going in every direction, shops and bars had their windows and doors wide open to welcome people. The smells of food and of cigarettes filled the air as my friend and I made the way through the crown down to the street corner. Snap! I got my picture taken; and I quickly sent it to my grandpa.

We looked around at all the shops-I was looking for something special to remember this day. So far I found nothing special. Never the less, the day wasn’t over. To be honest, all I really wanted was a drink because I was so hot.  After we had gotten a drink. We made one more stop at a souvenir shop where I got a key chain and a postcard.

Then it was time to leave the city, and head back home. When we got back home I was buzzing with excitement with stories of my first big city adventure. However, my friend had one more surprise for me; a T-Shirt.

Road Trip adventure

Hi Blog world,

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know I did. I went on a road trip to Biloxi, Mississippi with some of my friends. I was worried about getting car sick, and I had a few times of getting the case of nerves, however, I did not throw up. I think this is because of the good random conversation that we had.

Soon we were at the hotel. It was nice and to me it looked very fancy with all the nice sheets and the TV on the wall. We got our bags settled then we went hunting for a place to eat. We ended up eating at a restaurant that used to be a gas station. I got a cheeseburger and fries. I also got to try fries that were dipped in gravy and had roast beef on them. All the food we had was tasty, but soon all of our stomachs were full.

The casino
The casino we went to.

Once we left, we were headed to the main event and the fun or should I say “sinning” would begin. That’s right I went gambling at the casino!

At first I was overwhelmed at all the lights, noise and second-hand smoke, so my friend and I went outside so I could have a quick breather. Once I was ready to go back inside, we got our membership cards. Then we went up to the first floor to the non-smoking section. We looked around at all the games then we settled on one. I played the first few games for my grandpa-I lost. After that my friend and I went back downstairs and played some more. I did not do so well, and I only got .12 back. When we were done playing we went and got drinks.  We then went back outside for another break.

To be honest, this was one of the best parts of the trip. We were able to enjoy looking at the water and the air felt fresh to my lungs. We were able to talk about life, and how I can only be truly happy, by letting life be, and by work at setting and achieving  goals.

Soon we were back at the hotel-fast asleep.

The next day, the fun continued at the Hard Rock and Casino. This time, because it was early in the morning, there was hardly anyone there. My friends and I were able to split up and we had a wide variety of machines to choose from. This time, I came out of it with a little bit more money in my pocket then I did the previous night. Once again, at the end of the gambling my friend and I, went outside and enjoyed the sights. We were able to enjoy each other’s company.

Once we were back together, we decided to go to a souvenir shop. I did not find anything I wanted, but I enjoyed shopping anyway.

Inside a shark! Okay, truly its the souvenir shop.
Inside a shark! Okay, truly it’s the souvenir shop.

After the group met up again, we were all hungry and I had a craving for ice cream. To help settle my craving we went to a pizza parlor that also served ice cream. We ordered two different kinds of pizza. We also had fun waiting because we had the opportunity to make a craft with a clay material. I made a dog.

The two pizzas were delicious and interesting to taste; it was also fun to have a milk shake.  Once we were all done with eating we hit the road seeing all we could see on our way home.

Actually breaking down the walls of fear

Hi Blog world,

Over the past few weeks, I had to take life as it was, and I had to begin breaking down my walls of fear. The biggest fear that I had has been going to the doctor. I have had this fear since my mom died. I went to the doctor for a rash.  On a side note, I am going to be okay because the doctor gave me some medicine and it’s working. I also came face to face with my issues of not dealing with my stress and anxiety. I have a lot to work on. However, at least I told my nurse practitioner about how I want to learn how to cope better.

Another fear that I faced was crossing busy streets. I am fearful of crossing streets because of my visual impairment. But I know the more I cross the streets the more confident I will feel.

I have been feeling better about sleeping in the dark, too. I was uncomfortable with sleeping without the TV. I like to have background noise. Now I have learned to enjoy the quietness in my room while I drift off to sleep.

I still have a lot of work to do. However, I’m going to get to where I need to be.

Cooking on Friday Nights

Hi Blog world,

I have started to enjoy my Friday nights! Why you may ask? Because I have been cooking. One of my personal goals that I wanted to achieve this year was to improve my cooking. With guidance, from my friend Carol, I have cooked a variety of meals.

I have had the pleasure of passing on a few leftovers to some of my other friends, and it makes me happy to say that they have reported back  that they have enjoyed them. :)

Another thing I get to enjoy while I cook is when Carol and I get into the kitchen we have a great time. Not only do we get to talk about how to make my meal great, but we get to talk about life and about life lessons that will one day help me achieve success in my own life.

So here are my questions I would like my readers to answer: What are some of your favorite meals to cook?  What kinds of topics or  advice for life do you pass on while your cooking? Tell me in the comments below.

A visit to my university

Hi Blog world,

On Tuesday, I went to my old university. I had a meeting that I had to attend, so I decided to make a day trip.  I was all over the campus. I first went to the campus bookstore because I needed to pick up a few things. Then I went to the Communication Arts building. I was able to check out the school paper. Boy, I sure do miss writing for the paper. :)

After I checked out the school paper; I went to the meeting that I had to go to. The meeting  was long, and it was packed with information. But the main point that I took away from this meeting was I still have a lot of choices to make about my career and where I want to go with it. After my meeting, I was still feeling  hot and I was feeling tired from the heat, so to slow down the pace I decided to get some lunch. It was nice to sit back and enjoy watching people in the galley. I even saw two people I knew and it brightened my spirit.

Like most writers I enjoy coffee, so I headed over to the library to get some. I got an ice coffee, yuck! I ended up adding some creamers and sugar to it but it still didn’t turn out like I wanted it to and it, sadly, ended up in the trash can a little while later.

Even with most of the day gone I still had time to kill so I went and picked up a magazine that caught my eye. I enjoyed reading it and looking over my material from my meeting until it was time to go home.

All in all, it was a great day to make new memories but this visit also gave me a chance to look back on all the happy memories of my time as a student.
