How has 2017 been…March

Hi Blog world,

As I sit here looking at my monthly planner I came to realize what a good month it’s been.  This month was exciting because of my birthday. Many of my family and friends made my birthday extra special. The weekend before my birthday my best friend came over. We played cards, went for a walk, and read a book for our book club. We even went to one of my favorite restaurants. Another reason my birthday was special was because my grandpa and I went out to eat at a quiet restaurant; and I was able to share what I had on my mind. These memories are ones that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

As part of my internship experience I was able to attend impact 100. This was my first time out in the field and I learned a lot. Click here to read about my first time out in the field

Lastly, during the last week of March, I took a pre-employment class. This class taught me a lot of skills, such as how to update my resume. I think that this class was helpful when it comes to getting my dream job. It’s going to take a lot of hard work to get to my dream, however one day I’ll get to my dream of being a famous writer.

I can’t wait to see what April brings.

Happy National Puppy Day!

Hi Blog world,

Happy National Puppy Day everyone!

This month has been full of emotions the weekend of March 11, was the 2nd anniversary of Noodles passing. Now let me introduce you to Duke-Noodles’ successor.  Duke is a black and White, 48-pound Pit Bull Terrier.  Grandpa found Duke dodging cars that were in our street. Duke ran up into our garage and grandpa let him into our house. I have to admit that I was a little scared of him at first because I’ve only seen Pit Bull Terriers on TV, and I’ve heard different rumors about the breed.

We kept him until I found the dog’s owner information on a pet Facebook page. Grandpa reached out to the owner, and because the owner was out-of-state for the holidays, grandpa said he would keep the dog until the owner returned.  Once the owner returned from his trip, grandpa and his owner talked and the owner told grandpa that he could not take the dog back because of some personal reasons. Grandpa told him he would keep Duke until we could find him another home.

That weekend the owner came by with Duke’s supplies and the following week grandpa took Duke to the vet so he could get caught up on his medicine and shots. Duke was not a happy camper that day.

Duke, quickly won our hearts, and I can’t help but love how many silly things he does. He loves to play tug, fetch and go for walks.

I’ve been praying for Noodles successor for a long time, I’ve been praying for another Boston Terrier, Labrador Retriever or a Golden Retriever. However, God had other plans, and I can’t thank him enough for this blessing that he has given me.

She’s Social: Bonus post: First time out in the field

Hi Blog world,

This week I got to attend my first Impact 100 meeting. Not only was this my first time to see how this outreach helps our community, but it was my first time out in the field as a member of She’s Social. I was so excited when my supervisor picked me up; however, I became even more excited when I received my very own media pass.

There was a lot of people already at the meeting. My supervisor and I walked around and looked at the different organizations that impact 100 has helped-what was cool was that one of the organizations that won a past grant actually taught me life skills to help me become independent.   While we waited for the meeting to start my supervisor took pictures and then she interviewed some people. After the pictures and interviews were finished I was able to ask questions.

Since we still had a few minutes before the meeting we went through the buffet. We both got samples of all different kinds of goodies. Once we finished eating the meeting started, and it was nice to hear the opening speech and how this organization is helping so many people in the community.

When I got home I had another special surprise waiting for me: my new journalism bag! It was a fantastic day; and I can’t wait for the next adventure.

How has 2017 been..January

Hi Blog world,

I was watching YouTube the other day, and someone asked Youtuber, Cherry Wallis, how her start to the year was going… that question stuck in the back of my  mind, and I’ve decided to answer that question. I may even do it on a monthly basis. Let me know if you would like to read more posts like this one; Tell me in the comments below.

I thought that this year would be like the past three years-job searching with hardly any results. However, I’m trying to keep a positive outlook, and so far it’s working. On Friday, I have a mock interview; this will give me more  practice for when  a real interview comes along.

Then next week, I have a meeting with a new job coach. Before you guys start asking, “what about your internship?”  Don’t worry, I’ll still be interning for She’s Social, and if an offer is made I still have the opportunity to accept it. Until something happens with my career it’s all in God’s hands.

My internship with She’s Social: Week 28/29: Finishing up my current project

Hi Blog world,

First, I want to apologize for not writing last week; I had some personal things that I needed to work on. Now that I’m back at work, I’m slowly getting done with writing down and charting all of our social media groups in order to find and locate on a digital form.

Next week, I will start to analyze the groups we are in, and then start moving thoughts groups to our Facebook Social Media page. I think this part of the assignment is going to be easy because I know hotkey that makes moving things quickly; this second part of this project will take some time, however this means that we are getting closer to our goal.

One minor thing I did this week was write a business letter to someone because she’s Social would love to attend an annual conference this summer. I’m excited because I’ve wanted to go to this conference for as long as I’ve heard about it.

I feel like I am getting closer to my dream of achieving some type of career goal for myself because I have decided to accept the proposed title for employment.

My Internship with She’s Social: Week 27: Getting our groups organized

Hi Blog world,

First, I hope each one of you had a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. I enjoyed my break and I am ready to see what 2017 has in store for me.

Since I’ve been back I have been working on organizing the groups that we follow on Facebook. This task has been hard for me to do because my computer, screen reader and Kurzweill 3000 have not been working right.  I’ve been praying for a miracle and I’m happy to say that my God has provided me with the answers to my prayers, so for now its keep on trucking through.

For now I’m doing the best I can with the computer I have. I hope to have the groups all organized soon. To do this, I scroll through the Facebook groups and write them down by hand, then once my computer has cooled down I go into our Excel file and I enter the information in there.

I am excited to move on to the next part of this project, so we can get closer to our launch party that will be happening in April.
