#How I See (RNIB’s Campaign)

Hi Blog world,

Last week, on one of the Nystagmus Support groups that I am a member of,  posted YouTube’s Glen’s (Well_eye_never) #How I see campaign YouTube video. This campaign is ran through RNIB.  I really liked Glen’s video and the campaign, and once I saw more people tweeting their #How I See campaign on Twitter, I thought it was time to join in.

When people look at me they don’t realize that I have a visual impairment from Nystagmus. Once people find out that I am visually impaired I explain to them that my vision is like looking through a clear piece of Saran Wrap. For me my vision is best during the morning, and as the day goes on, and the more tired my eyes get the blurrier my vision becomes.

I also have night blindness which makes getting around in low light, during dusk or during the night more difficult. I use a cane when I need it, and it makes getting around easier.

Even though I have these vision problems that doesn’t mean I have to stop doing everyday tasks. I have low vision aids such as a dome magnifier to help me access small print.  I have a talking book player and access to talking books from my local library, as well as, Bookshare.org so I can enjoy audio books of all different  Genres.

As far as, using the computer I use a screen reader called, ZoomText. I like this program because it can speak what’s on the screen to me, and I can also change the color of the screen to make things easier to read. It has different ways of tracking the mouse pointer too, which helps me when my eyes are tired.  I have a speech to text reading and writing program called Kurzweil 3000-this program allows me to read books, and write and edit documents such as my blog. :) It has many different features that makes using the program easy to use-such as, changing the background color, the tracker, and changing the speed at which text is read to me.

All in all, I can say the most important thing I use on a daily basis is my Apple Iphone. I can now text with ease because of the built-in microphone and voice reader. I can also use the magnifier instead of using my dome magnifier.

Lastly, the most important tool I have is great and supportive family and friends, no matter if its face to face or online, they remind me that I am a stronger person despite my disability, and to keep positive no matter what I face as a person with a visual impairment.

What are your favorite YouTube channels?

Hi Blog world,

As I was looking for ideas to write about today, I came across this question, and since I’m still on Unemployment island I watch a lot of YouTube channels. Here’s a list of the top five channels that I watch on a daily basics.

  1. iiSuperwomanii this channel is run by a very talented woman named, Lilly Singh, I like here channel because of the funny comedy videos that she produces every Monday and Thursday. He content makes me laugh and reminds me to stay positive.

Here’s the link to Lilly’s channel:

  1. Gone to the Snow Dogs, is a fun-loving all around dog channel, that features humans Jessica, and Jamie and their three adorable dogs: Shelby, Memphis and Oakley. I love their channel because they give me ideas for my dog Duke. They do treat videos, training videos, and other fun related dog topics.

  1. As mentioned on my “How has 2017 been…January” I watch Cherry Wallis , who like me loves Harry Potter and Makeup. I love her Harry Potter hauls and her craft ideas that are Harry Potter themed.  Watching her do Makeup tutorials are a lot of fun too.

  1. Another YouTuber that I really enjoy watching is the amazingly funny, but yet he provides great information about Britain, Even Edinger. 1. Last and not certainly least is the fun, and honest Molly Burke. She has an amazing positive attitude towards life, and I love how she helps educate the public in funny, yet down to earth ways, about blindness.  These videos make me want to continue to smile even more everyday even though I face many challenges as someone who also has a visual impairment.

How 2017 has been…September

Hi Blog world,

September has brought on lots of blessings for me.

First, I enjoyed a day of simple trip to the grocery store. I don’t know if you guys know, however I am on a lifestyle change called, “the no white food diet,” I do pretty well once I get motivated and I have the right foods to stay on track.  Let me know, by writing a comment below, if you want to know more about my journey while on this lifestyle.

My second blessing this month was I went shopping with a friend of mine, I got a white and black top that I could use for work and some new leggings. I’m so excited for the muggy Florida weather to be over, so I can bring out my winter clothing. I also received an amazing gift of some new clothes from some friends of mine. I love my new style of clothes. It really helps boost my self-esteem. I feel like I’m ready for the word of work-once God puts me in the job that he needs me to be in.

My final blessing, and the one I’m most excited to share, is I finally have a Mic and a tripod where I can start making YouTube videos! Tell me, in the comments below, what kinds of videos you would like to see on my channel. I’m excited to see all your comments and I’m eager to get started producing videos.

Hi Blog world,

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already eight months into the year. Boy, time is moving quickly.

This month started off with my grandma’s birthday! We had a blast as we invited friends to come help celebrate her special day. As usually grandpa made his special coconut cake. Enjoy really enjoyed it.

I have also enjoyed shopping; I found some stuff that Duke enjoys. He sure is a spoiled puppy.

How 2017 has been…..July

Hi Blog world,

Now, we are into August-Where has the time gone?

Here are my blessings for this month:

  1. Catching up with old friends. When daily life gets to busy hearing from an old friend really lifted my mood.
  2. Enjoying a get together with neighbors and friends. I enjoyed talking with everyone. I especially enjoyed the coconut cake we had for dessert. Yum!
  3. Even though, I was not able to attend the American Nystagmus Network Conference, it was nice to hear from others about what they had learned. I have decided to make a goal to try to attend the next conference.

How has 2017 been….June

Hi Blog world,

Another month has quickly pasted, and instead of complaining about being on Unemployment Island I’ve decided to pick out three positive things that happened!

  1. I got to have lunch with a  group of my friends! We went to an Italian restaurant I had a meatball sub; and it was amazing.  I even got to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. (One of my favorites :) )

2. I have the most supportive group of friends in the whole wide world. From here locally to all the way from England to India. They support my writing and what I am trying to achieve.  When we get a chance to chat online we have a blast and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.

3. Lastly, I got to see a live taping of a show called “Inner Voices,” this specific show was about an Indian named Chief  Blue-Eyes and about his culture. The show was very interesting and I learned a lot.

After the taping my supervisor and I went to a Mexican restaurant to celebrate my one year work anniversary.

How has 2017 been…May

Hi Blog world,

As I sit here drinking my almost cold coffee, I also take a glance at my planner. Boy, May was filled with excitement! As you know, I’m the intern for She’s Social, and we had our launch party this month. For weeks leading up to the party I worked hard gathering information that my supervisor asked of me. We had meetings on how she wanted the launch party to go. I’m happy to say that the launch party was a success and everyone had a great time. There was music, dancing, poetry, and speeches. The room was filled with great energy.

I took a Selfie at the launch Party! Don’t I look pretty?

Now onto my journey with my long-three year stay on unemployment island. My job coaches found a hot job lead as a receptionist. I went to the interview ready to nail it! I dressed for success and showed interest in the company.  I felt like my interviewing skills have improved, yet I was not chosen….

Another thing one of my job coaches did to help me leave the island was to help me pick out two more dress for success outfits for interviews. I like my new outfits and feel like I can nail my next interview.

Until my next interview though I will be chatting with my friends about the minimal resources I have, and how I can build a boat that will not sink when I start paddling out towards employment island.
